“Give people wonderful tools and they’ll do wonderful things.”

Last night saw one of the biggest events of the tech calendar with Apple’s annual September event.

Although the tech giants made a number of other product announcements, all eyes were on the three new iPhone’s, and for good reason!

The iPhone 11 is the successor to the iPhone XR that debuted last year. It comes in a variety of different colours (green, white, yellow, purple, red and black) and also boasts a new wide-angle, dual-camera system. Other features include a new night mode that uses adaptive bracketing for better low-light shots and a 6.1″ display, with the “toughest glass” ever on an iPhone.

Longer battery life is also a feature, which is always a welcomed inclusion considering all the time we spend on our phones!

One of the highlights of the iPhone 11 (this is also included in the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max) is the slow-mo selfie videos  – or  “slofies,” as Apple calls them.

iPhone Pro and Pro Max

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max have caused a lot of excitement amongst tech-geeks. Both have three cameras instead of 2, and they shoot in 4K. An onstage demo showed just what that would look like. It also demoed how upcoming software will record different subjects through each lens.

One of the most exciting developments of the Pro-range camera is a new “Deep Fusion” feature that uses machine learning for dramatically improved low-light shots.

So how does it work? According to TechCrunch: “Deep Fusion shoots nine images, pre-shooting four long- and four short-exposure images into a buffer. Then when you press the shutter button it takes a longer exposure. Then the neural engine and ISP combine these on a pixel-by pixel-basis into your image, harnessing the power of the A13 Bionic chip.”

The entire range of iPhone 11 is now available so be prepared to see a whole lot of “slofies” being taken in no time!
